Have you ever considered that the problem is not with the audience but with the medium through which you present the message-- i.e. you? In short, were I in your shoes, I'd be saying (apologies to the Bard), "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our Audience but in ourselves".

An example that I believe is a bit too transparent to us on the outside: Me thinks thou dost protest thy holieness too much. In other words, today, if you want to appear holy, you don't stand there saying "Thank you Lord, that I am not like that sinful publican over there." Instead, you simply try to out-publican the publican. Thus we have such nifty turns of phrase as "another mercy-begger" and the like. If you are truely unaware that such things are at best wierd to say and at worst, poor attempts to admit to sinfulness without admitting anything, then I think you are going to have a hard time preaching to anyone but the choir. Christ, at least, came for the sick, not the well. Perhaps when you can come down to earth with the rest of us, and get comfortable with your own sinfulness, you will be able to relate to other sinners, no better than you, who are struggling in their own way.
